IMDb for WordPress: Configuration

Visit the configuration page via Settings -> IMDb on your left side and customize the following fields if necessary.

IMDb for WordPress Plugin - Settings

Basically all data are available in English. If you want to output titles and descriptions in another language (e.g. German), a The Movie Database (TMDb) developer API key is required. Displaying actors requires a valid API key as well.

Note: However actor descriptions are only available in English.

Box Style

We are provide a variety of different styles for the IMDb movie/series box. Right now you can select one of the following styles:

  • Clean (layout only, adapting your themes design)
  • Light
  • Dark
  • Navy
  • Red

The default style for every box will be chosen on your settings page.

We regularly work on more styles. Anyway you are able to create your own style via CSS.

Cache duration

Due to the fact that api requests take some time there’s a built-in caching functionality. In fact you are able to enter the time which will be used to prevent the plugin from requesting the movie/series informations (titles, teaser, ratings etc.).

We suggest using a caching time of at least 3 days due to the fact that most of the data won’t change that often. At the end of this period of time the plugin will fetch fresh informations from the used API again.

Anyway this options increased your page speed due to the fact that the results will be saved temporarily and not be fetched so often.

Editor preview

Enable this option if you want to display an preview of the IMDb box within your WordPress editor instead of the raw link.

Due to the fact that there is a different rendering mode within your admin dashboard, the layout of this preview is not exactly like the presentation on the frontend. Additionally the preview only works by pasting an IMDb link. It won’t work if you use the imdb shortcode.

Here you can enable or disable certain functions for the frontend output. Currently the following options are available:

  • Metascore rating
  • American film-rating (MPAA) and TV Parental Guidelines classifications

More options will be added by and by.

Clear Cache

If you need to clear the cache manually in order to get the current movie/series data (e.g. ratings) simply hit the button.

Clear Image Cache

All movie/series thumbnails (called posters) will be stored within under the following path: /wp-content/cache/imdb/ after there are being fetched from the IMDb. The posters won’t be affected by the general cache duration and its renewal of data. This workflow increases the performance tremendously.

If you need to clear the image cache manually in order to get the current movie/series posters simply hit the button.
